RECREATIONAL TEAMS

All coaches and assistant coaches MUST be registered with CYSA and obtain coach passes. You can obtain a coach registration form by contacting recregistrar@wvysl.org. Please turn in your completed form with your photo (1" x 1") to  WVYSL Recreational Registrar

The league recommends recreational team coaches to take at least the CYSA "F" license course. The league offers free coaching classes and CYSA coach licensing courses.

DIVISION III (Competitive) OR DIVISION I (Select) TEAMS

All coaches coaching at West Valley Youth Soccer League teams in Division I or  Division III, must send in application annually and be approved by the league. Completed applications are due by the end of December for the following year.

All completive and select coaches must also have required level of CYSA coaching licenses or work toward attaining the required level as quickly as possible.

Applicants must use an application form downloadable from this web site. The form in pdf format is here. Application must be accompanied by the following documents and will not be considered until all necessary documents have been turned in.

  • A cover letter stating your team plans and goals for the year
  • A copy of your latest CYSA coaching license
  • (For returning teams or teams transferring other leagues) A current team financial statement
  • Contact information for the team volunteers (not including the coach). If the team has representation on WVYSL board, then the contact information for only one team volunteer is required.

Fill out the form and return it with the required additional documents Dave Meyer, 245 Virginia Ave. Campbell, Ca. 95008 .  Once you are approved to coach a competitive or select team, you and all of your assistant coaches and trainers must obtain coach passes by completing form 1628 (available from the registrar) and submitting it to the registrar with a photo and a copy of CYSA coaching license.

Following are the deadlines and late penalties that the league has set.  The deadlines late fees have been designed to encourage coaches to submit their applications promptly. Checks for late fees are payable to WVYSL.

IF YOU COACHED A CLASS I OR CLASS III TEAM IN WEST VALLEY IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR:  The deadline for submitting your application without penalty is Dec. 31st of the year previous to the year you are applying for. If your application is received between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, you must also include a non-refundable late fee of $100.  If your application is received between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28, you must include a non-refundable late fee of $200.  If your application is received between March 1 and March 31, you must include a non-refundable late fee of $300.  No applications will be accepted after March 31.

IF YOU COACHED A RECREATIONAL (CLASS IV) TEAM IN WEST VALLEY IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR:  The deadline for submitting your application without penalty is Jan. 31 of the year previous to the year you are applying for. If your application is received between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28, you must include a non-refundable late fee of $100.  If your application is received between March 1 and March 31, you must include a non-refundable late fee of $200.  No applications will be accepted after March 31.  (The league recognizes that coaches coming from the recreational area may need extra time to organize their program, often from scratch, while returning Class I/III teams and others usually come in with fairly intact programs.)

Applications will also be accepted from coaches who did not coach a team in West Valley in the previous year.  The deadline for submitting your application without penalty is Dec. 31st. No applications will be accepted after March 31st.

For recreational coaches who may be considering moving to the Class I/III program, the league put together a document in fall 2001 which is still useful:  "Making the Decision to Move into Comp/Select Program".  This information is helpful for parents and players as well.
