The Surf Girls are a hard working, fun loving, competitive team that plays in both spring and fall. We are the “senior” West Valley team in our age group, having played competitive soccer here since the spring of 2008. In addition to having plenty of fun, we have enjoyed significant success on the field. In 2009, we were semifinalists in Association Cup. In December of 2010, we were Finalists in Association Cup. We were also the CCSL Coast Silver A Runners Up in 2010. This year has been a rebuilding year for us and we are looking to add players to fill out our roster. However, we were finalists at the 2011 Soccer By The Bay Tournament in August and U12G champions at the Fremont kick or Treat 2011 Tournament in October. We are currently preparing for Association Cup this coming January.

The Surf Girls teams started in West Valley in 1997 and have developed strong traditions (ask about our cheer, for example). We play hard on the field and we also have a lot of fun off the field. We believe in providing a fun and supportive environment for developing players, with a strong emphasis on sportsmanship. Our goal is to teach girls to be strong, confident players and, most of all, to love the beautiful game throughout their lives. At the same time, we allow our players the opportunity to explore and pursue other interests. Many of our players also play competitive softball, volleyball, and basketball, as well as pursuing disciplines such as music and dance.

Our coaches are all licensed volunteers. Scott Sawyer has been coaching girls for 15 years over all age groups. He has a CYSA E/D license and is a candidate for the National D license. He is also a senior referee and referee instructor. Dave Meyer has been coaching girls for nearly 10 years. He has the NSCAA Advanced Regional license and is the Girls JV coach at Westmont High School. He is also a soccer referee. Tim Hunt started coaching when his daughter joined our team and now has 4 years’ experience and a CYSA F license. We provide goal keeper training with a professional trainer at separate sessions from our regular practices.

We practice twice per week, with typically one or two games per weekend. We play both spring and fall CYSA seasons and typically enter 5-6 tournaments per year.

Also, note that league-wide tryouts for our age group (girls born after 7/31/1999) will be held on Saturday, December 3, from 8:30-10:30 am, and on Saturday December 10, from 2:30-4:30 pm, at Prospect High School, rain or shine. The tryouts are a great way to get in a couple of fun workouts and at the same time have an opportunity to meet the players and coaches of all three West Valley teams in our age group.
