EAGLES APPROACH
WV EAGLES offers an individualistic training approach utilizing proven strategies including the Fiorentina method and Coerver coaching, as well as incorporating iSoccer assessments which have proven to take players to the next level. Eagles focus on player development, not on competition and winning. We emphasize fundamentals such as ball mastery(touch), feints, off-the-ball movement, and individual offensive and defensive tactics. To track progress, Eagles assess players periodically and players receive report cards followed with scheduled goal-setting meetings. Coaches and managers employ Positive Coaching Alliance strategies to create an environment with a positive winning attitude, regardless of score. WV Eagles are shifting focus to the long-term technical development of players and building passion for the game.
TRAINING IS VALUED ABOVE GAMES
Eagles practice 2-4 weeknights at 6pm. This gives kids a chance to pursue other after-school endeavors which is in-line with our mission to build the WHOLE student athlete. Eagles focus on technical foundations and limit scrimmages (small-sided) when run to only 10-15 minutes per practice. We want kids practice the technical skills that are very often overlooked during scrimmages or games. We believe that before we can teach any type of large group tactics we must first master the necessary skills in order to put those tactics in place.
FIORENTINA METHOD
The Fiorentina Method is developed by ACF Fiorentina, an Italian soccer club playing in Serie A. Because of the small size and capital of their club compared to Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Juventus, and the like, they needed to develop their own players to stay competitive in the top flight. Professor Vincenzo Vergine established a successful youth development model based on specific focus for differing age groups. Training focus categories include Psychomotricity, Coordination, Strength, and Tactical/Technical. During some of our training sessions you will see the players engaging in different exercises designed to enhance the psychomotor, coordination and strength necessary to make a complete player. Some of these exercises include different kinds jumping, short hurdles, tossing the ball and balancing work on one leg.
iSOCCER
iSoccer is a standard that we use as one of our developmental tools to motivate and assess areas of touch and control. Through a fun website, players are able to see their progress, and compare their iSoccer scores to their teammates. Their motto is “The Game Within the Game”, which describes their success at gamification of soccer development.
TEAM BACKGROUND
Eagles are primarily based in Cupertino and hold practices and home fixtures at Easterbrook Discovery School. 2013 Spring marks our first foray into competitive soccer after years of recreational play. We look to expand to a 2nd team per age group by next season.
