Level: Norcal Silver and Bronze
The Surf Girls are now two teams that play in both spring and fall. In addition to having plenty of fun, we have enjoyed significant success on the field. The Silver team (formerly a 99 team) finished 2nd in CCSL Silver A in Fall 2013 and won the Almaden Classic U14G in 2013. They would have been playing in the Gold division this fall if they had not moved up from U15G to U16G. The Bronze team played their inaugural season in the CCSL Spring Copper bracket and took 1st place as well as winning the District 2 Spring Cup U15G Bronze division. This fall, they will compete in Norcal Bronze. The two teams will also combine rosters in order to compete in Norcal State Cup.
The Surf Girls teams started in West Valley in 1997 and have developed strong traditions (ask about our cheer, for example). We play hard on the field and we also have a lot of fun off the field. We believe in providing a fun and supportive environment for developing players, with a strong emphasis on sportsmanship. Our goal is to teach girls to be strong, confident players and, most of all, to love the beautiful game throughout their lives. At the same time, we allow our players the opportunity to explore and pursue other interests. Many of our players also play competitive softball, volleyball, basketball, and water polo, as well as pursuing disciplines such as music and dance.
Our coaches are all licensed volunteers. Scott Sawyer has been coaching girls since 1997 over all age groups. He has attended the NSCAA National Diploma course and is currently the JV Girls coach at Westmont High School. He is also a senior referee and referee instructor. Dave Meyer has been coaching girls since 2001. He has the NSCAA National Diploma and is the Girls Varsity coach at Westmont High School. He is also a soccer referee. Tim Hunt and Paul Bocian both started coaching because their daughters are on the team and and both have completed the CYSA E license.
We practice twice per week, with typically one or two games per weekend. We play both spring and fall seasons and typically enter 5-6 tournaments per year. We always welcome prospective players to come out to a few practices and get to know us better. Please contact our coach at the email address above for more information.
